Bite-sized Summary: $13 cocktails, street food inspired small plates and sophisticated pub food (if you can even call it that!) The newly launched Graziers Grill House in the Sutherland Shire serves up fresh and flavoursome food, including a perfectly cooked crispy skin salmon, washed down with an irresistible Golden Gaytime apple crumble cocktail.
The Shire is an area of Sydney which remains largely unexplored for me, particularly when it comes to the food scene. I was excited to try out Graziers Grill House, which showcases an eclectic menu inspired by flavours from around the world, alongside pub favourites and a killer cocktail menu.
Situated inside the Caringbah Hotel, the Grill House offers a casual and relaxed atmosphere, which is family friendly yet perfect for groups of all ages.
I was particularly intrigued by the international ‘street food’ starters, which included sticky, slow-cooked pork ribs, yakitori chicken skewers and korean beef tacos with sriracha mayo. Today, we chose the charred corn on the cob, rolled in chipotle mayo, tangy spice, parmesan and lime ($8 for 2), with some added crunch from the pumpkin seeds. A delicious appetiser, which was full of flavour!
For mains, Graziers offers all your pub favourites like the chicken parma, slow-cooked beef pie, a porterhouse steak sandwich and perfectly cooked steaks seasoned with their signature baste. My sister, a fish and chip fiend, ordered the beer battered flathead with fries, salad and aioli ($23). The fish itself was cooked to soft, flaky perfection and coated in an incredibly crisp and not-at-all oily batter. The salad and chips? Simple, fresh and perfectly seasoned. It’s been years since I’ve had fish and chips but these are probably some of the best I’ve had!
Fresh Tasmanian Salmon
As much as I love a good chicken parma, today I decided to go for something on the lighter side; fresh Tasmanian salmon with crispy skin, tuscan tomato salad and salsa verde ($28). This, my friends, was the moment that I was blown away by the quality of food at Graziers and started to wish I lived a little closer!
The salmon was cooked to utter perfection, flaking away at the touch of a fork and wonderfully pink in the middle, with an incredibly crisp skin, which was very well seasoned (and very, very delicious). Accompanying the fish was their take on a panzanella, Tuscan chopped salad with chunks of seasoned croutons, cherry tomatoes, red onion and basil; a beautiful dish showcasing, premium quality, fresh ingredients.
Golden Gaytime Apple Crumble Cocktail
As if I wasn’t already jealous of Sutherland Shire locals for having such exceptional food, Graziers offers an amazing drinks selection, with cocktails and spritzes for only $13 (!!) Take your pick from a range of signature cocktails like the refreshing ginger and lychee mojito with Havana Club rum, Paradiso lychee liqueur, ginger beer, mint and lime, or perhaps a bubbly cucumber and gin spritz with Bombay Sapphire, prosecco, club soda, sugar syrup and fresh cucumber.
The drink that piqued my interest the most of course, was their Golden Gaytime Apple Crumble cocktail. A delicious blend of Zubrowka (bison grass vodka which pairs notoriously well with cloudy apple juice), Licor 43 and cloudy apple, finished with a fan of sliced green apples with caramel and golden gaytime crumb. If you’ve never tried Zubrowka and apple, it’s a great mixed drink featuring an aromatic vodka, which is incredibly smooth and easy-drinking when paired with juice.
Grazier’s version was a substantial sized glass (did I mention it was only $13?!) with a nice, strong taste of the Zubrowka and Licor 43. Although there is not much that ties the Golden Gaytime garnish together with the apple flavour of the drink, it was a lovely and refreshing tipple for our Saturday afternoon.
All your pub favourites and so much more, Graziers Grill House showcases wonderful, fresh produce, which is bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. Together with exceptionally friendly and helpful service from the lovely Lauren and her team, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Graziers to locals and visitors alike! One thing’s for sure, I’m hoping to find an excuse to come back for $13 cocktails and to try their jam donut ice cream sandwich…
