The crown jewel of Barangaroo House, Smoke is one of Sydney’s most sophisticated rooftop bars. It’s sweeping views over Darling Harbour and the city skyline make this is the perfect spot for sunset drinks – because cocktails taste better by the water, right?
It’s a cold, dark Wednesday evening in Sydney, definitely not the weather for a rooftop soiree, yet Smoke’s open-air lounge is brimming with people chatting over drinks and soaking in the twinkling lights of Darling Harbour. On this particular night, I’m visiting Smoke as the first stop of a progressive dinner through The Streets of Barangaroo – a Hungry Diner event.
‘New Fashioned’ Cocktail ($21)
A twist on the classic, the aptly named “New Fashioned” is a delicious blend of Dewar’s 12yo whisky, Starward Two Fold whisky, Talisker 10yo whisky, enhanced with softly fragrant strawberry gum and cinnamon syrup and a dash of tonka bitters. Strong yet entirely devoid of any harsh edges, this is hands down my new favourite whisky cocktail!
